(Managing Director) graduated from the University of Minnesota with bachelor degrees in biology and dance and completed a post-baccalaureate certificate in Contemporary Studies in Dance from the Federal University of Bahia in Brazil. She has also trained with Capoeira Berimbazu at the Federal University of Espirito Santo in Brazil. She is a licensed K-12 dance teacher and holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Hamline University. She has been dancing for Marciano since 2009 and is thrilled to be a co-founder of Contempo Physical Dance.
(Dancer) Catlin Murphy is a native of Brooklyn, NY, and studied dance at the Alvin Ailey School from 2nd grade through high school. At Vassar College she was a member of the Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre and majored in computer science. Since moving to Minnesota to work at Target's Technology Headquarters, she has performed in works by Non Edwards, Erinn Liebhard, Becky Heist, Sarah LaRose-Holland and Christopher Watson. Catlin has been with Contempo Physical Dance since 2013.
(Dancer) Gemma Isaacson graduated from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, summa cum laude, with a BFA in Dance in 2014. While at the university, she performed in works by Helen Tamiris (under the direction of Dianne McIntyre), Donald Byrd, Nora Chipaumire, Uri Sands, and Larry Keigwin. Gemma has attended summer intensives with American Ballet Theatre, Ballet Arts Minnesota, Minnesota Ballet Company, Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater, Donald Byrd, Velocity Dance Center, and various teachers of the Alexander Technique. She has been a company member of Contempo Physical Dance since 2012. Other professional credits include: Minnesota Ballet Company, Threads Dance Project, Dance and Other Behaviors, and zoe | juniper.
(Dancer) (MFA University of Colorado Boulder, BFA University of Minnesota) is a dance artist that makes opportunities for people to experience the embodiment of music. She is currently on faculty at Winona State University and is a Teaching Artist for the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts, and is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Rhythmically Speaking, a jazz and American vernacular dance supporting and presenting organization. Her own choreography has been presented across the U.S. and Canada, and she has performed for creatives as varied as hip-hop dance theater artist Rennie Harris, contemporary performance company Off-Leash Area and the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers Appalachian clogging company. Her scholarly work has been published in the Journal of Emerging Dance Scholarship and the Journal of Dance Education, and she also flexes her physical comedy muscles by playing “Nerdette” for Saint Paul Saints Baseball’s Entertainment Team. She is excited to be in her first season with Contempo Physical Dance.
(Dancer) A Georgia native, Elander Rosser currently attends the University of Minnesota and is pursuing a BFA in dance, where he has performed works by Carl Flink, Nora Chipaumire, Penny Freeh, Uri Sands, Joanie Smith and Makeda Thomas. He was most recently seen in Carl Flink's Whack-A-Mole at The Cowles Center and Collide Theatrical Dance Company's The Belmont Hotel at the Southern Theater. Elander is extremely excited to be a part of the Contempo Physical Dance family
(Dancer) Sarah Mortenson is originally from Manhattan, Kansas and came to the Twin Cities to pursue a BFA degree in Dance at the University of Minnesota. Sarah is trained in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, and African-Brazillian dance, and studied at the Joffrey Ballet School in New York. She is also a classically trained violinist. Sarah has had the privilege of performing works by Angharad Davies, Penny Freeh, Michael Lynch, Martha Graham, Cory Goei, Maya Gurantz, Africa Guzman, Ohad Naharin, and Joanie Smith. Sarah is thrilled to begin her apprenticeship with Contempo Physical Dance this 2016-2017 season.
(Dancer)has been seen on stages in and around the twin cities, performing as a member of Actor’s Equity Association, and recently has also debuted his band KASANO & THE VYBES of which he is the lead singer (www.KASANOMUSIC.com). This will be his third performance with Contempo Physical Dance Company, other Contempo productions include the Sage Award nominated production of MERGE with Black Label Movement, and SENZALMA. “What an honor it is to be a part of this family”.
(Dancer)Born and raised in Minneapolis, Liam McLaughlin began his dance studies with Twin Cities-based youth company, Young Dance, before attending Perpich Center for Arts Education, and is now pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at the University of Minnesota. Over the years, he has had the privilege of working with artists such as Garth Fagan, Gretchen Pick, Mathew Janczewski, luciana achugar, Erin Thompson, and Orlando Hunter. He is excited to perform in his first season with Contempo Physical Dance.
